As far back as I can remember, I had headaches that would last two to three days, a few times a month. My parents took me to the doctor many times, and I was given many prescriptions. Finally, at age 19, I saw my first chiropractor, and the pain went away with one adjustment! Now, when a headache comes on, an adjustment takes care of it. The doctor told me there must have been some type of trauma when I was young, so I asked my parents. It turns out that when I was two years old, I was in my mother's arms when we were in a head-on collision with a dump truck. (There were no child restraint laws back then.) It had to be that accident. The experience sparked my interest so much that I went back to school and graduated from what was then Parker College of Chiropractic in 1996.

I was born at Yale-New Haven Hospital and lived in a suburb of Bridgeport, Connecticut, until I was five. My parents then moved to Bozrah, Connecticut, the only town in the world with that name. I graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1984 and attended Brigham Young University, where I first majored in English and minored in Greek and Roman mythology. That changed at 25, when I decided to go to chiropractic school and had to catch up on my science courses.

I currently teach as adjunct faculty at Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State University) in a gross anatomy lab, with students ranging from pre-nursing to pre-med. One of my nerdy dreams is to earn a math degree, and I'm currently taking upper-level calculus and math courses on my way there.

Helping Southern Utah feel better for 32 years.

Hi, I'm Melanie Riggs. I've been helping people feel better through massage therapy for 32 years, and I still love what I do.

My journey into the healing arts began as a teenager, when chiropractic care helped me through my own health challenges and sparked a lifelong interest in helping others. While I originally considered becoming a chiropractor myself, I discovered massage therapy and knew I had found my calling.

After graduating from Utah College of Massage Therapy in 1995, I began what has become a wonderfully diverse career. Over the years, I've worked in luxury resort spas, chiropractic settings, corporate wellness programs, private practice, and even as a personal massage therapist. I also had the opportunity to own and operate my own day spa, leading a team of wellness professionals while helping clients achieve their health and relaxation goals.

One thing I've learned through all these experiences is that no two clients are alike. Every body is different, every situation is unique, and every massage should be customized to the individual.

I specialize in deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, Swedish massage, sports massage, prenatal massage, hot stone therapy, reflexology, and customized therapeutic massage. I also enjoy incorporating techniques such as cupping, sound therapy, and therapeutic hot and cold applications when beneficial.

One thing you'll quickly learn about me is that I love learning. Growing up with two teachers as parents inspired a lifelong passion for education, and I'm always looking for ways to better serve my clients. In fact, I'm currently completing advanced training in an exciting new therapy that is gaining attention across the country for both its healing and rejuvenating benefits.

Joining Active Health Chiropractic feels like coming full circle for me. The chiropractor who first inspired my interest in the healing arts was Dr. M. Curtis Hobson's father. To now have the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Hobson and the entire Active Health team is both meaningful and exciting.

Whether you're seeking pain relief, injury recovery, stress reduction, improved mobility, or simply time to relax and recharge, I look forward to helping you feel your very best.
